Dr. Eileen Yu简介:
Dr Eileen Yu is a Lecturer in the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials at Newcastle University. Her PhD study worked on the development of direct methanol alkaline fuel cells, which was one of the first studies in the area. After obtained her PhD from Newcastle University, she worked as a research fellow at Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Germany, before returned to Newcastle to take a prestigious EPSRC Research Fellowship (Life Science Interface) in 2006.
This fellowship enabled her to extend her research into the biosciences, from which she has developed a multidisciplinary research programme. This gives her the solid ground to further develop her career in the emerging field of developing bioelectrochemical engineering and bioelectronics. Research on microbial fuel cells (MFCs) has been on application of low cost oxygen reduction catalysts, developing biocathode, analysing hydrolysis and fermentation rate in MFCs, and investigating novel anion exchange polymer and membranes. She has established her research group with focuses on novel bioelectrochemical systems for environmental applications, biosensors, and bioelectronics. She is PI for two EPSRC KTA projects, and a CoI for the EPSRC Supergen Biological Fuel Cell Consortium. She is the initiator and Co-PI of NERC project of Bioelectrochemical systems for resource recovery (metal and mineral recovery) from wastewater.
